(January 23, 2008— e-mail sent to Patti) - Thanks for some interesting additional info on the Johnson family. I stopped researching when my mother (Jo Ann King, daughter of Tibitha Alabama Johnson) died in 1998, and just ran across your RootsWeb info this morning while searching during a moment of renewed interest. I’ve visited Macedonia Cemetery in Brownwood, TX while researching the Johnson clan. Also thought you might like this little “odd” tidbit: -“Jim Johnson Survey was on the Pecan Bayou, just south of Susan Earp’s place. The thing that he is remembered for was his six fingers.” (From “Early Communities of Lake Brownwood”, p. 16) - That trait (6 fingers) continues on: I was born with 6 fingers on each hand, and my brother’s son was born with 6 fingers and 6 toes. - Thanks again. - Pat Williams - Wimberley, TX

The Jim Johnson listed here is my husband’s great-great-grandfather who came to Brown County in 1863. His sons and neighbors were involved in the wire cutting incident that began in the spring of 1883, which was quite a to do here in Brown County. Uncle Charlie Johnson (the outlaw) and Aunt Pearl were neighbors before they married. In the early 1900’s Charlie and his sister Alabama were living with their mother on her land just north of Brownwood near Bangs. Charlie was in his early forties and “Allie” (his sister) (as she’s referred to on the census record) was in her early thirties. Around 1908 the Moores moved onto the farm next door. Jasper Moore and his wife Arcadia and their youngest daughter Pearl lived on part of the land, and their son (Pearl’s brother) Thallie and his family lived on the other part. In late 1910 Charlie, then 47, and Pearl then 17, were married. They had only one child, Lonnie in 1911, who was shot and killed in 1926. Thallie (T.T.) Moore signed Jasper’s death certificate. 1870 US census - Brown Co, Texas

E mail sent 1/23/2008 - No, sorry. The oldest Johnson photo I have is the one of CJ’s family taken about 1896 (with the man I knew as “Uncle Jeff’, then 5 yrs old). I don’t have any Johnson lineage beyond Jim either.
The wire-cutting story, and the buffalo stories are some of the ones I’ve heard passed down from my grandparents, uncles, and parents over the years. I had the book ‘Old Communities of Lake Srownwood” but loaned it to another researcher and never got it back. If you know where I can buy another copy, I would love to do so.
You may have read the text below from someone else, as I wrote it about 15 years ago, and have passed it on to several people years ago when I was actively researching.
This was from notes I had made about Wesley (Charles Wesley Johnson):
Born in Prairie Point, Wise County, Texas, January 12, 1863.
Charles and Pearl were neighbors before they married. In the early 1900’s, Charlie and his sister Alabama were living with their mother on her land just north of Brownwood near Bangs. Charlie was in his early forties and “Allie” (as she’s referred to on the census record) was in her early thirties. Around lOO8the Moores moved on to the farm next door. Jasper Moore and his wife Arcadia and their youngest daughter Pearl lived on part of the land, and their son (Pearl’s brother) Thallie and his family lived on the other part. In late 1910 Charlie, then 47, and Pearl, then 17, were married. They had only one child, Lonnie, in 1911, who was shot and killed in 1926. Thallie (T.T. Moore) signed Jasper’s death certificate.

Another family living in the same area at the time was the Weedons. As of 1993, the Weedons still owned land in this area, including Weedon Ranch, on which is located Macedonia Cemetery, where Charles, Pearl, Lonnie, and C. J. Johnson are buried. This is a small cemetery which originally was located across the road from the local church. Since Lake Brownwood was constructed, the road and the church have been lost.

Mark Johnson told the story of Charles having shot a man who turned in Charles and C.J. for “cutting wire” (a method of protesting the partitioning of open range land by cutting fences). Charles later told Mark that he didn’t kill the man “but meant to”. Charles ran after the shooting, living in Oklahoma, Arkansas and north Texas for seven years. In that time he reportedly spent only one night in a bed (a corn husk bed for which he paid fifty cents for the night). He later told Mark that he spent this time travelling ‘tor his health”. After seven years, Charles returned and turned himself in, but due to a lack of credible witnesses, he was released. (This story has since been found printed in the book, “Old Communities of Lake Brownwood”, 1980, by Pattie Lee Cross Weedon. The night the shooting took place is listed as November 9, 1886. Among the known wire cutters is listed Charlie, C.J. “Jeff” Johnson, Frank Johnson, Bill Purcell (husband of sister Nancy Johnson), and Bob Parrock (believed to be Nannies brother).

Died in Bangs, Brown County, TX March 16, 1944 at the age of 81 of acute heart failure. His death certificate lists contributing factors as hypertension and senility.
Regards, Pat Williams Wimberley, TX

Either Patsy Johnson or Pat Williams. I have half-brother (Parrack) info on the fence cutting incident in your 2015 exchange. My ancestor is Robert Cypret "Bob" Parrack, Buffalo Hunter. Respond here and we'll figure out how to get you about a 60 page booklet. I'll be notified of your comments.
