Mr. Williams was elected to the office of Sheriff on March 21, 1857. On March 21, 1857, the first election of the county took place in the Chandler home, and Williams was elected county Sheriff; however, because of a mistake about county boundaries made by the state legislature, none of the officers elected in 1857 ever served. Instead they asked the legislature to correct the mistake, and it did so on February 8, 1858. When elected Sheriff on March 21, 1857, Williams did not qualify and resigned. There was no date given on his resignation. (Contributed by Patsy Johnson in Brownwood)
