1. Richard Marion Potter, JR was born about 1832 in South Carolina. He died in 1864 in Civil War. Elected sheriff of Brown County May 1856. Potter was elected on August 2, 1858, and served until April 7, 1860. (Frontier's Generation by Tevis Clyde Smith, (Brownwood, Texas, 1931; 2d ed. 1980), pg 8.) 1850 US census - Milam Co, Texas - Milam and Williamson Dist - with parents 1860 US census - Coryell CO, Texas Owl Creek Bell County Minute Men, 1859. (Roll incomplete)-Volunteers served without pay, furnished, armed and mounted themselves. They divided into two squads, about 10 or 12 men in each and stayed out, usually, about 10 days at a time. At Pidcock's on the upper Cow House, in Coryell County, their extra supply of guns and ammunition was kept and the two squads generally camped together there, one going out, the other coming in. Not always did the same men form a squad, Dave WILLIAMS usually commanded one squad, Green DAVIDSON the other, though Dr. Jno. W. EMBREE and Col. John Henry BROWN sometimes commanded. They ranged over the western portions of Bell and Coryell Counties and the Counties of Lampasas, Hamilton, Brown and Comanche, including the present County of Mills. They were the immediate predecessors of the organization know as the "Bell County Rovers." Section 3-Scattering List. There was a R M Potter in Co B 15 Texas Infantry who was a 1st Lt then 2nd Lt. Richard Marion4 Potter (Richard Marion3, Rufus Ephraim2, Ephram1) was born Abt. 1832 in SC, and died 1864 in the Civil War. He married Kathryn Dalton, daughter of Michael Dalton and Permelia Kell. She was born 24 Feb 1839 in IN, and died Before 1862 in TX. Notes for Richard Marion Potter: Went by "Marion Potter." Notes for Kathryn Dalton: Catherine Dalton Children of Richard Potter and Kathryn Dalton are: i. Martin Cylvestor Potter, born 19 May 1859 in Brownwood, Brown, TX; died 06 Dec 1954 in Crosbyton, Crosby, TX. He married Demeris Parilee Poe; born 08 Sep 1863 in San Saba, TX. ii. Nettie Cordelia Potter, born 03 Jan 1861 in Coryell Co., TX; died 11 May 1936 in Norton, NM. Richard married Kathryn Dalton daughter of Michael Dalton and Pamelia Kell. Kathryn was born on 24 Feb 1839 in Indiana. She died about 1861 in Texas. Richard and Kathryn had the following children: 2M i. Martin Cylvestor Potter was born on 19 May 1859 in Brownwood, Brown CO, Texas. He died on 6 Dec 1954 in Crosbyton, Crosby CO, Texas. Martin married Demaris Paralee Poe daughter of Jesse Poe. Demaris was born on 8 Sep 1863 in San Saba CO, Texas. 3F ii. Nettie Cordelia Potter was born on 3 Jan 1861. She died on 5 Nov 1936. Second Generation 3. Nettie Cordelia Potter (Richard Marion JR) was born on 3 Jan 1861 in Coryell Co, Texas. She died on 5 Nov 1936 in Quay CO, New Mexico. Nettie married Albert Kauffman Latham son of Thomas Jefferson Latham and Hannah Condie Parker on 25 Dec 1876 in Coryell Co, Texas. Albert was born on 6 Jun 1855 in Texas. He died on 16 May 1897 in Claude, Texas. Family folklore has it that Albert and the ranch hands were out tending to a herd of cattle when a thunderstorm came up and lightning struck, killing Albert and the Ranch foreman. The youngest child is believed to have been named for her father and was born after he died. Thomas J Latham was born on 28 Feb 1883 in Coryell Co, Texas. 7M iv. Charlie Latham was born in Feb 1887 in Texas. 8F v. Edna Latham was born in Mar 1889 in Texas. 9M vi. Walter Darworth Latham was born on 2 Mar 1892 in Floyd CO, Texas. 10F vii. Ina Latham was born in Dec 1893 in Texas. 11F viii. Ruth Albert Kauffman Latham was born on 6 May 1897 in Texas.
