Mission

The Brown County Museum of History’s mission is to foster community engagement and deepen understanding of the region’s historical and cultural heritage through the establishment and stewardship of a museum and related educational initiatives. This commitment extends beyond the preservation of historical artifacts to include the presentation of programs, workshops, and learning opportunities for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The museum strives to create an inclusive environment where people can come together to connect with history, exchange ideas, and engage with one another.

Vision

By weaving together stories that span from prehistoric life to the profound local and global impacts of World War II, the Brown County Museum seeks to create a cohesive and engaging narrative that highlights the depth and diversity of the region’s past. Through thoughtfully curated exhibits and interpretive programming, the museum connects these distinct historical periods to illustrate how the people, events, and innovations of earlier times continue to shape the community today. In doing so, it fosters a strong sense of civic pride and encourages a deep, lasting appreciation for Brown County’s unique role within the broader American narrative.

Kids' Programs

The Museum offers an unforgettable journey into the past, specifically designed with young explorers in mind!

In addition to our fascinating exhibitions and tours of the Historic Jail, the museum boasts of an excellent Kids’ Zone—an interactive discovery area and vibrant space designed to make history feel like a playground.

Throughout the year, join us for a wide range of fun, hands-on educational programs that transform learning into an adventure, from interactive workshops to seasonal activities and crafts. These unique historical experiences allow children to touch, build, and discover the stories of those who came before them, making every visit both educational and extremely fun.
